Food Service Office September 2011 – June 2012
River Falls High School
818 Cemetery Rd.
River Falls, WI 54022
Dear Parents/Guardians:
Welcome! We at the RFSD Food Service Department look forward to serving your family.
Our Program
The River Falls School District participates in the National School Lunch/Breakfast Program and we are committed to serving nutritious, high quality and affordable meals that appeal to children and teenagers. Our meals, provided through Chartwells School Dining Service, are planned and prepared to meet the Dietary Guidelines for Americans emphasizing less fat, saturated fat, sodium and sugar.
Family Accounts
Each family in the district has a food service debit account into which they deposit money for their family to use to make purchases. Each student in that family receives their own PIN that is entered into the computer to make a purchase, automatically deducting the price of the item from your account. Your family food service account covers lunches, breakfasts, snack milks, Kid’s Club snacks, and ala carte items (for your middle and high school students) at all of the schools, so you need to make only one deposit for all of your children attending the River Falls School District . Parents/guardians are expected to maintain a positive balance in their account at all times. Checks should be made out to RFSD Food Service. Please include the following information with your deposit: head of household, students’ names, and amount enclosed. Payments may be mailed to RFHS Food Service, 818 Cemetery Rd. River Falls, WI 54022 or placed in the drop box available at each school’s office. Payments delivered to the high school office before 8:00 a.m. are usually posted to your account before lunch. Please allow 2 days for posting of deposits made at other schools.
Use the chart below to help calculate your meal, milk break and Kid’s Club snack costs. If you have middle or high school students, remember that they have extra ala carte items, such as juices, chips, baked goods, yogurt and sandwiches available for them to purchase. Discuss with them how much they may spend on these items. If you do not want your students to be able to purchase ala carte items with your family account please call our office at 425-1830 ext.1119. Ala carte items may also be purchased with cash.

Checking Your Account Balance
We will do our best to make sure students know when their account balance is low, but it is your responsibility to regularly check your balance. You can call or email us for your current balance or you can check your account balance on line. We also recommend that you sign up to receive email notification of low balances. Emails are automatically sent out when your account gets below $15.00. To take advantage of this service, complete and return the form provided. Regular letter statements will be mailed only to those accounts that have a negative balance.
To access your account online:
Click on “family login”
Enter your “username”(family ID) and your “password”(last four digits of your phone number)
Select your state and school district from the list provided
If you do not know your family ID or have difficulty accessing the website, please contact us.
Negative Balances and Suspension of Service
Letters will be mailed once a week to those families who have a negative balance. Only a few days credit will be given to these accounts before service is suspended. During this period students may charge a lunch each day, but no extra items. We will attempt to warn students or families again, the day before service is suspended. The following day, if parents fail to provide students with either a bag lunch and beverage or a deposit, elementary students will be offered a sandwich and milk. Middle school and high school students will not receive the alternative lunch, but may pay cash for lunch. After five days of alternative lunches, school district personnel may be asked to intercede on behalf of the student. Students who are entitled to free meals will not be denied a meal, nor given an alternative meal.
If you are having difficulties with account payments, call us. Reduced price and free meals are available to those who qualify. These benefits are provided in a totally confidential way. If you wish to apply, fill out the enclosed forms and return them to the address on the form or to your school’s office.
Please feel free to contact us with any questions you may have at 425-1830 ext. 1119 or e-mail us at Rita.Turner@rfsd.k12.wi.us.
Sincerely,
Sherry Bruggeman
