I missed writing my last column in January because I was attending the State Education Convention in Milwaukee with fellow School Board members and some River Falls administrators.  The conference was so valuable that I thought I’d use this week’s column to share about a few of the speakers I heard at the conference.
 
One keynote speaker was Wes Moore, author of the memoir, The Other Wes Moore: One Name, Two Fates.  Moore was 3 years old when his father died in front of him.  His mother hoped for a better future for her family and made great sacrifices to send Moore and his siblings to schools outside of his poor, inner-city Baltimore neighborhood.  Moore went on to graduate from high school and a prestigious college and now is a successful businessman, writer, speaker, and entrepreneur.
