PTO meetings take place in Room 216 on the second Monday of each month from 4:30-5:30. The next PTO meeting is on Monday, June 14th. The RFPMA PTO meets at 4:30pm. Please join us!
RFPME PTO BY-LAWS
ARTICLE I – OBJECTIVES
The objectives of this organization shall be:
- To support, promote and develop those policies and programs which provide the optimal education environment for all students at RFPME, and to raise funds through donations, contributions, grants, sponsorship of schools events or other means, as my be deemed necessary, to implement those policies and programs.
- To promote interest, knowledge and active participation by the parents in the education and welfare of their children.
- To promote and develop an interactive relationship between RFPME and its community, so as to provide an optimal educational environment for every child.
- To provide opportunities for and encourage parents of students at RFPME to participate in school governance and educational decision making.
ARTICLE II – MEMBERSHIP
Membership in the PTO shall be limited to all parents, guardians, persons in parental relation, and designed persons to students currently attending The Montessori Academy. Membership shall also be open to all teachers and staff currently employed at The Montessori Academy. Each eligible person of The Montessori Academy PTO shall be entitled to one (1) vote each. Members deemed to have a conflict of interest shall not be permitted to vote on those issues.
ARTICLE III – OFFICERS AND THEIR DUTIES
SECTION 1. Titles
The elected officers of the Organization shall make up the Executive Board and be comprised exclusively of eligible persons. These officers shall include: President, Vice-President, Secretary and Treasurer.
SECTION 2. Eligibility
Eligibility for office is open to ALL members of RFPME PTO who have attended at least three (3) general meetings during the previous school year. Members of the same family may serve as officers.
SECTION 3. Terms of Office
3.1 The term of office shall be one school year and those elected shall take office at the October PTO meeting.
3.2 No person may serve in the same position for more than two (2) consecutive one (1) year terms unless, after a canvass of the membership, no eligible persona is will to serve. Each one year term is subject to a ballot vote by PTO members.
SECTION 4. Duties of Officers
4.1 President
The President shall: preside, alternately, or as they shall deem appropriate, at all General Membership Meetings and Executive Board Meetings; shall countersign all checks with the Treasurer. The President shall approve and initial all correspondence prior to distribution by the PTO. The office of President holds one (1) vote.
4.2 Vice President
The Vice President shall perform the duties of the President should he/she be unable to do so. The office of Vice President holds (1) vote per person.
4.3 Secretary
The Secretary shall: keep and maintain the official record of the proceedings and actions of all PTO meetings, including notices, agendas, sign in sheets, and material distributions; prepare and maintain minutes of each PTO meeting in time for review and adoption at the appropriate meeting; make minutes available upon request; maintain a log of all amendments to the bylaws and ensure that a copy of each is on file in the Principal’s office. The office of Secretary shall have one (1) vote in the meetings.
4.4 Treasurer
The Treasurer shall: be responsible for the transfer of all PTO funds to the PTO’s bank account within one (1) week of their receipt; maintain all deposit slips, with appropriate identification of the source of such funds; maintain an up-to-date record of income and expenditures; be a signatory on all PTO checks; distribute receipts upon request of donations to the PTO; provide financial reports at all Executive Board and General Membership Meetings. The office of the Treasurer shall have on (1) vote in the meetings.
SECTION 5. Nominating, Voting and Election Procedure
5.1 Notice will be sent to members, at least 2 weeks prior to the first fall meeting, informing them of nomination and elections. Anyone not able to be in attendance may express self interest in an office or nominate someone else by submitting this in writing to the President prior to the meeting.
5.2 New officers will be introduced at the voting meeting and will resume responsibilities at time of adjournment of this meeting.
5.3 Officers wishing to resign their position shall do so in writing to the Secretary and/or President. Members will be notified of vacated positions prior to the next meeting. The membership will vote on filling vacated positions at the next General Membership Meeting.
SECTION 6. Disciplinary Action
An officer who fails to attend three (3) consecutive meetings without good cause, misconduct in office, or failure to perform their duties, following written notice from the executive board, shall be removed from office by recommendation of the Executive Board or motion from a member and two-thirds vote of the PTO present. The Organization’s notice and agenda must cite that a vote will be taken by the PTO as a disciplinary action against an executive board member.
ARTICLE IV – MEETINGS
SECTION 1. Time and Location
General Membership Meetings of RFPME PTO shall be held the second Monday of each month, unless otherwise designated, at 4:30 pm. General Membership Meetings will be held at The River Falls Academy Building. All members of the PTO may attend and otherwise participate at the discretion of the president.
SECTION 2. Quorum
A quorum shall consist of all those in attendance at the General Membership Meeting.
