Excused Absence
A student is considered excused when the student is absent with an acceptable excuse for all or part of a day during which school is held.
Unexcused absence/truant
A student is considered unexcused/truant if the student is absent without an acceptable excuse for all or part of a day during which school is held. Part of a school day is defined as any time period that exceeds 15 minutes.
Half day absence is 15 minutes to 50% of the day
Full day absence is 50% or more of the day.
Absences allowed each year
10 written, pre-planned parent/guardian notices of absence are allowed each school year.
4 oral or written, parent/guardian illness absences are allowed each school year.
*Absences due to medical appointments may be excused and exempt from the overall total with a note from the medical professional and administrative approval. Chronic/extended illness notes must be renewed every 30 days.
Occurs when a student misses 10% or more of the school days within an academic year for any reason, including excused, unexcused, and disciplinary absences.
Excused Absence

Habitually Truant
A student is considered habitually truant if the student is absent from school without an acceptable excuse for part or all of five (5) or more days on which school is held during a school semester. Part of a school day is any time period that exceeds 15 minutes.
Tardy
Occurs when a student arrives at the student's registered class location 1-15 minutes after the bell that signals the start of the class period has sounded without a valid excuse.
Chronic or Extended Illness Verification Form
A verification form that outlines the condition and the specific impact that the chronic condition or extended illness will have on the student’s attendance. This form must be completed by the student’s physician every 30 days.
